RPG1 (before 2001) · Roleplay God

The first Roleplay God. Its site, its address and its date have not been located; it was over before RPG2 opened in June 2001, and on RPG2's judges page its owner promises to be "honest & trustworthy like I was last time". Everything below comes from RPG2's site and from later posts.

Who ran it

RPG2's credit page, written by David P., who owned RPG1 and RPG2 and also owned the fed AWA:

Many people think Roleplay God is an idea I thought up and created but in the upmost honest and respect it wasn't my idea but created and thought up by Joshua P. Giving us version 1.0 of roleplay god was Joshua P. also. He contributed alot to Roleplay God and without him at my side at one time there wouldn't be Roleplay God at all. He is the original creator behind it and I am the man that made it happen.

A Primetime Central member who had been in AWA wrote in 2003 of "David P. of AWA and RP-God fame. I do believe he created RP-God 1".

The draw and the final

RPG1 had 64 entrants. BigErn, entering RPG2, looked back on it in his first-round roleplay (12 June 2001):

Now in the first tournament, I made it all the way to the final 8, where I should have gone on to the semi finals round, however, I was not that fortunate. I made a damn good showing, for a 64 man tournament, I'd say I did a pretty damn good job, seeing as it was my first tournament. [...] The first tournament was a real eye opener Fang, I got to face off against three or four jackasses in the first few rounds, before I finally got some decent competition, who manifested himself in the form of one, Damien Dark. [...] I want vengeance for being knocked out in the first tournament when clearly it should have been me and Johnny Mayhem facing off in the final round, not Chris Bagwell in a spot I know I could have held. [...] hopefully you're not nearly as terrible as both The Butcher and The Konkrete Kid were in the first tournament.

RPG2's judges page, 2001, introduces one of its judges as "Johnny Mayhem: You all know him. The original Roleplay God." A Primetime Central post of 23 May 2006 asks: "Wasn't the first RPGod tourney won by someone beating Chris Bagwell with stolen RP's too?" Chris Bagwell also entered RPG2 and, on RPG2's fan forum on 28 July 2001, posted a message titled "P., His Bullshit, RPGod1, And A Bunch of Other Shit"; the message itself has not been located.

Entrants named

Johnny Mayhem and Chris Bagwell (the final); BigErn (last eight), who lost to Damien Dark; The Butcher and The Konkrete Kid, two of BigErn's early opponents. On the Primetime Central forum in 2003, Syko Arsonist recalled getting through the first round "via script-style rping" against "some guy named PS MAD" and then missing the second round when his computer failed, and another member wrote "I was in AWA and RPG1".
