“There’s no sex in your violence”-Gavin Rossdale(from the song, Machine Head)
An interesting point….and a perfect prelude to what we are about to experience as we join Jonathan Drachen and begin to live amongst his thoughts and dwell upon his actions.
We enter the world of this grand individual as he is sitting in a chair in some large bookstore on the eastern side of his home city, Dallas, Texas. It is located in one of those large strip-mall-esque structures that occupy the commecial/shopping sectors of the non-densely-urban sectors of the United States. Cradling this bookstore, which happens to be Borders Books and Music, on either side are a random jewelry store and a Best Buy. The latter; being obviously the largest.
There we have digressed though, we must move on to the meat of the subject. Here Jonathan is sitting in a chair, clad all in white pants and a white long-sleeved shirt, in what appears to be a coffee/snacking area of the bookstore. Since he was a young child, Drachen had always been fascinated by literature; thus, a bookstore or library was always his preferred place to ponder.
In a ponderous state he is now. Pondering what will become of him, pondering how he can answer the call that has been sounded to him on the field of chaotic battle and little peace; that is his life. He is pondering this, with a troubled look on his face and on his features in general. His beard is unshaven, and his eyes are bloodshot red. Jonathan hasn’t slept, in turmoil over his fate.
In Thought…’I was accepted into Role Play God! Role Play God …what a holy name it has achieved that the name itself could not have suggested already. In its first two tournaments…it accomplished something that very few other tournaments of wrestling have, crowning an actual god of the sport. No one thought it was possible. And that conclusion was certainly based on an abundance of failed attempts to do such a thing. However, it has been done, and so shall it be done again. The question, to all, is simply…WHO? Will it be Jason Snow, Duke Williams, Eli Flair, Rent-A-Hero…ME? No, of course not. No bastard like me has a chance. I am nothing and never shall be… However, I was gifted the rare and wonderful chance, just to be a part of it. Even if I am eliminated first round, it will be the greatest loss of my life.
‘But, I can’t go in there with that mentality. No, I have the chance to win, the unique chance to go into battle and conquer. However, this battlefield, like the ones that I imagine to be my past*.’
*=Jonathan Drachen was kidnapped by unknown villains at the age of 14 and his memory was fabricated while they performed some functions of their evil plot upon him. However, they fabricated his memory to simply believe that he had grown up just like any other child. They then placed him in Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas on a path to becoming a businessman. He did not even know that it was false until he visited his hometown and found that he had never even been born there. Apparently, the evil kidnappers had tried to give him a desire not to come home by implanting in his head false thoughts of parental neglect. However, Drachen, having stronger character than they had imagined. Jonathan went home this past Mother’s Day, regardless of implanted desires never to return to his place of birth, due to his familial dedication. It was then, that he found the truth about his life, that he is a man without a past.
Jonathan is interrupted in his thought, when a pretty young girl in a red Border’s apron taps him on the shoulder. She is fairly short, blonde, and has blue eyes. Her body is quite excellent, as a surfer would describe it. “Do you need anything sir?”
Jonathan’s thoughts have lapsed, and yet he still takes a moment to answer. Deep thoughts require a lot of mental swimming to surface from sometimes. “Uhh- No. No. I’m OK.”
The young girl smiles at Drachen, prompting him to smile back. They are the only two people in this area of the store.
The girl hasn’t gotten a clear look at Drachen’s face until now; his head was bent. But when she does, “HEY! You are Jonathan Drachen!”
Drachen is notably stunned. He turns to look at the girl and his eyes go wide as he brings his head up. “You know who I am?” Drachen asks on a high, excited note.
“OF COURSE! You are my favorite wrestler. Ohh this rules so much! I have wanted to meet you for soooo long!” The girl loses her will and runs to Jonathan and hugs him fiercely.
Jonathan enjoys this, and his face is glowing due to it. He thinks, ‘Well if nothing, I do have fans.’
She finally lets go and then sits down next to Drachen at the table. “I’m so glad to meet you. This is so exciting.”
Drachen has been taking a moment to process all of this, the fanfare just from this one fan is quite impressive. “Calm down, miss. It’s not like I’m a legend or anything. Surely I’d have charged you to sit with me if so.” Jonathan smiles and laughs a bit. The girl seems a little upset at first, but recoils with unnecessary laughter that is not unpleasant, but … in excess.
Drachen smiles, a little surprised at the reaction. She beams at his, and then continues, “You don’t have to call me miss, my name is Sarah.”
Jonathan smiles back, but begins to think that she might be jailbait. He tries to think of a way to politely ask it and does. “Ummm, so how long have you been a fan?”
“I’ve been watching your entire career, ever since…you won that Kung Fu tournament in 92, right here in Dallas. I was only 10 then, but I knew you were something special, because I was there and saw you in person.” She gushes as a reply.
Drachen smiles, widely.
“But then you disappeared, and I didn’t see you until started wrestling.” She frowns at the first bit, then smiles at the second.
Drachen smiles again, “Wow, you really go far back...I mean, you have been following me for a long time, Sarah.” He blushes, more at the idiocy of his hesitance and perverted mental association of his first comment. Also add to this that Drachen does not usually succeed with the opposite sex, to describe the resulting blush. The blush seems to be exaggerated all the more by the white of his skin and clothing.
She sees the blush, and does so herself. They both look down at the table, and then their eyes meet once more. Hers are concerned now. “Was that Prophet* thing only an angle?”
*=Jonathan discovered that he had psychic powers at one point, and could foretell of many things that were in the future, and even see into the minds of men. He gained the nickname, The Prophet, from these events. He lost the ability when attacked with a blunt object on the street. His ‘ability’ was destroyed by the part of his brain that was struck. He had to undergo surgery, and it is believed that the doctors removed the damaged piece in order to stop internal bleeding. It is useless for anything other than psychic powers and thus was not missed. His assailant was never caught, or even discovered. Drachen never even saw his face
Drachen’s face turns a bit sour and he looks diagonally downward, and then his eyes meet hers again. “Not as far as I know.” He becomes a bit uneasy as this event is one in the darkness of his past, and tries to change the subject.
“Would you like to go out for some…” He looks at his watch. “Yes, lunch. Would you like to get some lunch with me?”
“Why sure. In fact, my break started,” She looks at her watch. “Five minutes ago…I’ve got an hour.”
