A Session Gone Awry
[.. June 29th, 2001 // Sometime, Somewhere ..]
[.. I haven't been violent for a long time. I've been VIOLENT, but I haven't taken myself very far in a long time. Well... I think Montrose just might be the man to make me go off again. ..]
[.. I'm angry because Montrose is a big idiot. I'm angry because even when I beat him, I'll be forced to fight Shawn Collins most likley. I'm angry because all this time I've been spending on Montrose and the HWF is starting to make me wonder about this marriage. Maybe I should push it back. Maybe I should wait. ..]
[.. I'm angry because I've always been angry. ..]
[.. Montrose's brother is talking for him now. He's upset because I downgraded Montrose. And you know what? I don't give a damn. I'm not here to make friends. I'm not here to feel bad for some guy who got his ass kicked daily and got humiliated on a regular basis. I'm here to win... and by playing out your brother's bleeding heart story even more, you've pissed me off. ..]
[.. I'm an angry man. ..]
[.. In case you don't know... you don't fuck with a violent man. ..]
[.. Anger equals violence. Violence equals pain. Pain equals... the story of my life. ..]
[.. June 29th, 2001 // 11:30 AM // Dr. Kastner's Office ..]
[.. KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. Dr. Kastner gets up from her large chair and goes to the door. Michael Trey strides in, shaking her hand. ..]
DR. KASTNER: It's good to see you again Michael.
MICHAEL TREY: I guess. You know how I feel about these things... it's nothing against you. I like you. But the whole idea of a psychiatric session... it makes me feel out of place.
DR. KASTNER: I know, Michael. Just have a seat on the couch and hopefully we can get this session done as painlessly as possible.
[.. Michael nods lightly and walks to the couch, sitting down gently and swinging his legs up. Eileen grabs her notebook from her desk and pours a glass of water for Michael along with one for herself. She takes him the water, and he nods his head in thanks. She sits down and takes our her pen. She taps the audio recording system on and begins the session. ..]
DR. KASTNER: Now, the doctor explained to me why he referred you here. I've kept up with your career, so I know the obvious reasons you might be having these problems. But tell me why YOU think that you're here?
[.. Michael shrugs. ..]
MICHAEL TREY: Because of my past. I think it's kind of obvious that my previous psychological problems were a factor in his decision.
DR. KASTNER: So you don't think that you're having any problem?
MICHAEL TREY: What problem would I be having?
DR. KASTNER: You don't think that you're struggling between your expanding career and your upcoming marriage? That's not causing any stress at all?
MICHAEL TREY: ... yeah, okay. But what can I even do about that, Dr. Kastner? I've got some responsibilities to take care of and I can't just drop them all to devote myself to Claire 24/7. I mean, I love her and my career at the same time. If I have to make a choice, then I can't win. I can barely sleep, and when I do I have all these odd dreams...
[.. Dr. Kastner perks up a bit at that, interjecting a question. ..]
DR. KASTNER: Dreams? Like what?
MICHAEL TREY: Well, a week ago I had this dream where I was racing, like in track? I was in a race against this opponent I had in Wrestle God 2. And as soon as I saw him, I started running harder. And at the end of the race was this piece of cheese sitting on a beautiful pedastal, and I won the race. But then I looked to the crowd to spot Claire, and she was walking off hand in hand with this guy! My opponent!
DR. KASTNER: Did you ever stop to think that all that meant something?
MICHAEL TREY: Well... yeah... but there were others too, other ones that made less sense. I always have this dream where I'm going onto a rollercoaster, and I strap myself in... but the ride never quite stops... and just when it seems like we're nearing the end, my straps all come undone and I go flying out of the coaster...
DR. KASTNER: It's pretty obvious that these are all manifestations of your fears, Michael. You fear a lack of control... hence, a roller coaster that you can't get off. You're unable to decide between your career and your fiance, so you put it into a competition. One that you cannot win.
[.. Michael turns his head upward to look behind him at Dr. Kastner. ..]
MICHAEL TREY: I figured that was kind of obvious, Doctor.
DR. KASTNER: Michael... have you ever stopped to think that you CAN do both?
MICHAEL TREY: No... I constantly feel like I'm neglecting Claire if I concentrate on wrestling... but I can't back out of my wrestling engagements.
DR. KASTNER: This isn't about that, Michael. The problem isn't that most of your time goes towards your career. It's that you think it has to be an all or nothing proposition. Tell me, what do you and Claire usually talk about?
MICHAEL TREY: Well... wrestling and the wedding.
DR. KASTNER: You see? Michael, you don't need to give Claire more time. You need to give her BETTER time. You've got to concentrate on HER and her ALONE when the two of you are together. Obviously she's going to be upset when all you talk about is wrestling, and obviously you're going to feel guilty about doing that. You just need to seperate the two parts until you're better able to handle them.
MICHAEL TREY: But what about the wedding?
DR. KASTNER: I've talked to Claire before... trust me, she'll do fine on her own. If she asks you for your input, give it to her. The fact is, weddings are usually better left to the woman anyway. At least, in most cases. I mean, honestly Michael, what do you know about invitations?
MICHAEL TREY: Not much.
DR. KASTNER: Exactly. Just spend the time you have together doing things TOGETHER. Let wrestling be unimportant for a hour. Now... I know you have a lot to worry about this week.
MICHAEL TREY: You're damn right I do. The chance to win the HWF World or Canadian belt... defending the FWF Tag belts... and most of all, Wrestling God.
DR. KASTNER: You sure that you aren't putting too much on yourself?
MICHAEL TREY: No, I'm not. But I have no choice here. This isn't for ME. This is for the HWF, on every level. Wrestling God? I'm there to prove that the HWF isn't just another two-bit fed. FWF? Same thing... And the HWF itself? There are people that are trying to twist and change and MURDER everything I used to stand for.
DR. KASTNER: Are you sure that isn't just your own stubbornness?
MICHAEL TREY: YES I AM! The HWF is meant to be a place where you work for what you get and you honor your word. And most of all, you wrestle your hardest... and I can't pretend to support any more people who don't do exactly that. Dishonorable, greedy, selfish bastards. Just because the fans like them doesn't make it RIGHT.
DR. KASTNER: I'm not going to pass judgement on you, Michael... if you believe it, then you should stand behind it. Just don't convince yourself that you're doing something noble here if you aren't sure.
[.. Michael bites his lip and slams his hand angrily into the seat of the couch. He sits there, simmering for a moment. Finally, he swings his legs over the edge and checks his watch. ..]
MICHAEL TREY: It's already one o'clock. Do you mind if we take a break here? I didn't get lunch.
DR. KASTNER: I think that'd be a good idea, Michael. We'll meet again at two o'clock, okay?
[.. Michael nods his head and stands up, not really looking at Dr. Kastner on his way out. She says something as he is leaving. ..]
DR. KASTNER: Think about what I said during lunch, Michael.
MICHAEL TREY: I don't need to.... things are already looking clear to me.
DR. KASTNER: I can only hope so.
[.. SLAM! The door slams shut, leaving Dr. Eileen Kastner looking where Michael stood seconds ago. ..]
DR. KASTNER: I can only hope so...
[.. She grabs her coat off her chair and heads to the door as we... fade. ..]
[.. June 29th, 2001 // 1:15 PM // Your Local McDonalds ..]
[.. We get a quick flash by of the action... almost like it didn't happen... Michael spots HWF Canadian Champion Chris Davison. In a wierd interaction, Davison buys Trey lunch... they sit and argue... and then, the fireworks erupt. Davison picks up an apple pie, and then smacks Trey in the face with a half-punch, half-pie shot. People in the restaurant next to them start to look at the two HWF wrestlers. Trey merely sits there, in half-shock. He wipes the pie off his face, slinging it onto the tray, muttering beneath his breath. Trey suddenly explodes out of the booth to meet Davison, already standing in the aisle from the pie-shot. Davison throws a right, but Trey blocks and wraps up his arm. Davison throws a left, but Trey wraps up that arm too and headbutts Davison hard. Both men stagger a bit but Michael quickly takes Davison by the hair and moves to someone else's table, rubbing his face in their food. Davison finally fights out of Trey's reach, wiping his face off with one hand quickly. Michael spins with a kick to the head, but Davison ducks it and punches Trey in the gut. From nowhere, the manager comes running, threatening to call the cops if they don't take it outside Both having the same idea, Trey and Davison throw each other by their shirt toward the plate glass window. Shards go flying everywhere, but both men are generally unhurt. Davison and Trey trade fast and furious lefts and rights before a lone police car pulls up, and Davison and Trey look up, surprised. Trey and Davison are quickly apprehended, and shoved into the back of the car. ..]
CHRIS DAVISON: Well, that was fun. Let's do it again sometime.
[.. Michael shakes his head, half in amusement. ..]
MICHAEL TREY: Sure. Next time, I'll pick up the tab.
[.. The cameras are shoved away suddenly, and then cut to black. ..]

June 29th... Busted
C laire had to bail me out of jail today.
I left my appointment with Dr. Kastner to take a lunch break, and I ran into Chris Davison at McDonald's... we proceeded to brawl and tear the place apart. We got taken downtown and locked up... and Claire had to bail me out of jail.
Of course, she didn't do so without chewing me out. I get the feeling that a lot of it is anger that she wanted to get out over the last couple weeks. So I just stood there and took it. After about fifteen minutes, she ran out of breath and patience and bailed me out.
The ride home started out awkward... she drove. I sat there and messed around with the radio until "It's Been Awhile" by Staind came on. She looked at me and simply asked why I wasn't more concerned by this whole fight. I told her it was because it didn't matter.
That's right... getting arrested really didn't matter to me at the moment.
She asked me if Chris was hurt. I said no. She asked me what Tempest thought. I said that I didn't know. It sort of bothered me... I guess she had grown to accept that wrestling would dominate my conversation. So I sat back and grabbed her hand. And I asked her...
MICHAEL TREY: Claire... how was YOUR day?
She brightened up. Everything seemed better. She went on about invitations and tuxes and her job and I just kept asking questions about HER. Not once more did Chris or Tempest come up. We decided to go with a predominantly blue color scheme for decorations and clothing. We decided to buy invitations from a company that she heard from at work. We decided to buy the cake from a friend who owns a bakery.
When we got home, I called Dr. Kastner's office. I didn't go back for the second part of my session, but we talked for about thirty minutes on the phone. I told about the fight. I told her about the ride home. She seemed to think it all was a step in the right direction.
Then we got home, and Claire went and got onto the computer to work on a project for work. She works almost as hard as I do.
And here I am. Writing in my journal again.
Working on my fourth step towards salvation. Or was it my first?
You know what I hate about Montrose? He doesn't seem to take anything seriously. He's not a real person with real problems. He's The Wrecking Ball. He's The Full Monty. He's... just another gimmick.
Just another win. Just another punk on my way to the end.
People might think it's cruel to verbally bash a guy that went through the "trauma" that Montrose went through, but I don't care. People need to stop with the sanitizing and the censoring and the sensitization of society and realize that maybe what we need isn't another thank you card or another way of patting each other on the back. Maybe what people need is a good solid punch to the chin. That's what I hate about Montrose. That's what I hate about society.
You know what I hate about Michael Trey? I'm always letting feelings and thoughts get in the way of pure violence. I hold back anger. I only express myself when it's safe and comfortable. I overanalyze. I'm an asshole. I'm afraid of more things than anyone could imagine. I'll never get past this journal; I'll never finish my twelve step program. I am the biggest obstacle of my life.
I hate everything about this tournament? I hate that I'm surrounded by people that don't have the slightest clue who I am. I hate that I'm facing people that aren't good enough to get into the HWF. I hate that I'm just another one of the 32 participants left. I hate that I have to endure this tournament while wrestling in the Hardcore Wrestling Federation and Fans Wrestling Federation. I hate that I have to do all this while I'm getting married.
But if I embrace that hate... it can be the very fuel that pulls me through this storm.
The fuel to power me past an obstacle. To escape impending danger... from the human wrecking ball.
Ironic, isn't it?
[.. June 29th, 2001 // Sometime, Somewhere ..]
[.. It takes a special person to win a tournament, Montrose. You need to have endurance, you need to have stamina, strength, courage, character... all these things. But you need something else. ..]
[.. Talent. ..]
[.. I don't think there is a single person that doesn't feel bad for what you experienced in the past, but it's in the damned past. Let it go. You can still get your shit together and maybe even put up a decent showing against me. But you need to do one thing first... ..]
[.. STOP THE FUCKING MISTAKES. ..]
[.. If you don't listen, if you get humiliated, if you get your ass handed to you... it's not my fault. If you don't show up prepared, don't be surprised. It's your own damned fault. ..]
[.. Don't act like this surprises you. The psychiatric session... the fight... the obsession with hurting Chris and Tempest.... ..]
[.. Like I said before... Don't fuck with a violent man. ..]
[.. We all have our own release . ..]
